A Performance Study of CDPD
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cellular digital packet data (CDPD) is a wireless extension to data networks, which utilizes the idle capacity (radio channels) of cellular systems. This paper studies the performance of the CDPD system to investigate how the CDPD trac and the voice trac aect the CDPD blocking probability. The results oer guidelines for the CDPD network planning. Preliminary CDPD Performance Testing Results
Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) is a new standard, adopted by a consortium of the major United States cellular telephone companies, for data communication with wireless mobile hosts. CDPD is designed to carry data packets using using either IP or CLNP over the current cellular telephone network, utilizing the available idle capacity of the network not used by voice calls. Although much has ...

* This research was funded in part by the Canadian Foundation for Innovation Grant 910-99. Abstract In this paper we describe simulation of wireless data networks using OPNET. We give a detailed description of the network model that we used to investigate the impact of self-similar traffic on performance of a cellular digital packet data (CDPD) network. We use OPNET Modeler and its object-orien...

∗ This research was funded in part by Canadian Foundation for Innovation Grant 910-99 and the Grant-in-Aid from Telus Mobility. Abstract – In this paper we investigate the impact of traffic patterns on wireless data networks. Modeling and simulation of the Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) network of Telus Mobility (a commercial service provider) were performed using the OPNET tool. We use tr...

Cellular digital packet data (CDPD) networks borrow idle radio channels from advanced mobile phone standard (AMPS) cellular networks to send packet data traffic. We explore the amount of unused AMPS capacity available to parasitic data networks such as CDPD. Due to trunking inefficiencies, a relatively large amount of spare AMPS airlink capacity can be found. In addition, the periods of time AM...
متن کاملTransport protocols in wireless networks
It is well-known that TCP performs poorly in a wireless environment. This paper presents an empirical performance analysis of TCP on Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) and Bluetooth. This analysis brings out the weaknesses of TCP in realistic conditions. We also present CentaurusComm, a message based transport protocol designed to perform well in low bandwidth networks and resource poor device...
